4 Reasons ACs Cause High Humidity in Chesterfield, VA Homes

If you’re a homeowner in Chesterfield, VA, then you are probably running your AC around the clock to keep your house comfortable in the middle of the summer. Even with the AC on, you might notice that your house is still humid. Here are four reasons why your house is humid when the AC is on.

1. Frozen Evaporator Coils

Your AC’s evaporator coils work to remove humidity from the air your system circulates. If they freeze over, which can happen when something restricts your system’s airflow, that reduces their efficiency, contributing to indoor humidity.

2. Dirty Condenser Coils

The condenser coils on your AC unit remove heat from your home’s air, helping to keep the temperature comfortable. However, these coils can become dirty over time, causing the unit to work less effectively. Since they are outside your home, they may become coated with dust and dirt and cannot remove as much moisture from the air.

3. Using Wrong Fan Settings

When the fan is set to “on,” it circulates all of the air in your home, including the humid, warm air that often collects near the ceiling. This can make the home feel more humid, even if the air conditioner is newly installed or repaired. The fan can even draw more humidity from outside and into the condenser system before your AC can do its job.

4. A System That’s Too Large

If the installed AC unit is too large for your home, it will most likely bring the temperature down faster than it should. As part of your AC’s job is to regulate the humidity in your indoor air, reaching the set temperature too quickly means that it won’t have time to remove the humidity from its air supply.

If you are a resident in Chesterfield, VA, experiencing humidity problems while your AC unit is on, or you need AC unit repair and installation services, contact us at Classic Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning.
